Privately administered comprehensive IQ tests like the most recent editions of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale – Fifth Edition (WISC-V) and Woodcock-Johnson Test of Cognitive Abilities, 4th Edition are considered more reliable and valid, and offer parents and teachers more information, than the group IQ tests/screeners often given in the schools, such as the COGAT. Private testing results can also help parents in educational planning, help determine whether a child may benefit from some form of acceleration, offer insight into a child’s behavior and learning characteristics, and help determine eligibility for a special school program. Most, but not all, school districts will consider private testing as part of the selection process for enrollment in gifted programming

Will this evaluation determine if my child qualifies for gifted services at school?
Yes. We use assessment measures approved by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) for gifted identification. If your child meets gifted criteria, we will provide documentation that can be shared with your school district to support gifted eligibility consideration.

What does gifted testing involve?
The evaluation includes cognitive testing, a review of developmental and educational history, and a detailed report explaining your child’s strengths, learning profile, and educational recommendations.
For gifted identification, Arizona Department of Education (ADE) criteria focus on Verbal Reasoning, Nonverbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning abilities. In addition to these gifted eligibility scores, we also provide a Full Scale IQ score and additional cognitive composite scores that help explain how your child thinks and learns. Depending on the assessment results, these may include areas such as visual-spatial reasoning, fluid reasoning (problem-solving and abstract thinking), working memory, and processing speed.
